Rubik’s Cube tournament on Yangpu campus

On April 13 and 15, 19 students from Grade 2 to Grade 7 competed in a Speedcubing contest in Yangpu. The final took place on May 4 in a good spirit!

This tournament was organised by and for students and included different categories: 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, the Megamix, and the Pyramix. If many students chose to confront each other on the most famous category (3×3), two students were able to solve the 5×5 in less than 7 minutes.

This tournament was created by students from Grades 5 and 7 over several lunch breaks with the help of their teacher to develop the rules, the certificates, the different purchase requests, and make this contest a real success.

Mixing primary and middle school students during this tournament also highlighted our ongoing wish to deepen the exchanges between different levels: helping each other, improving together; both are key values for students’ psychological development.

Broadcasted on the different TVs in the Piazza to allow students to follow the event live, it now seems that a sudden enthusiasm regarding Rubik’s Cube has taken the whole campus, we may even see a new tournament being set up next year, on a larger scale…

Little reminder: The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and architecture teacher Ernö Rubik. With multiple educational qualities, this 3D puzzle is a perfect brain stimulant which helps developing memory, boosts concentration and patience, increases dexterity, and improves mathematic reasoning.

The best times of the tournament include the 4×4 finished in 1min39sec, the 5×5 finished in 5min16sec and the Megamix, finished in 3min7sec.

Well done to all the contestants!
